Marion is located in Linn County, Iowa, and is home to more than 29,000 people. The city offers many opportunities, both in business and in life. The Marion Chamber of Commerce is a division of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. It serves Marion by providing services that allow businesses and residents to participate in a variety of regional partnerships.

Marion is sprinkled with many brick front buildings, turn of the century homes, antique shops, and specialty stores. Marion History

Marion HistoryThe community was named after Francis Marion, who was a hero of the Revolutionary War. The area was selected in 1839 to be the first county seat of Linn County, Iowa. After years of debate over moving the county seat to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, it was put to a vote in 1919. The vote was 9,960 in favor of moving the seat and 4,823 not in favor.


Marion Parks and Recreation

Marion ParksThe Marion Park and Recreation Department is responsible for 16 city parks, Oak Shade Cemetery, the Lowe Park Arts and Environment Center, Willowood Pool and the Boyson Hiking-Biking Trail. The Marion Park and Recreation Department also offers many recreational and cultural opportunities for everyone in the area.

Marion Arts Festival
The Marion Arts Festival was ranked in 2007 by the Art Fair Source Book as the #1 fine art event of its size in the Midwest. Come enjoy plenty of food, entertainment, and art!

Marion EventsFreedom Festival
Many residents and visitors in Iowa come together each year to celebrate the 4th of July. More than 400,000 area residents and visitors attended Freedom Festival 2007.

The annual Freedom Festival begins with the inspirational Heroes Luncheon and culminates with the annual Celebration of Freedom Fireworks on July 4th. The wide variety of affordable Freedom Festival events and activities is only possible through the very generous business, individual, plus city and county financial and volunteer support.

Freedom Festival events and activities provide a broad array of high quality entertainment and educational opportunities geared to local celebrations of freedom and the many interests of our diverse population base.

Marion Arts Council
The Marion Arts Council promotes and cultivates the arts through exhibits, exhibit opportunities, workshops and performances.

Hunters Ridge Golf Course
Set in the area’s only residential golf course community, The Lodge at Hunters Ridge is the perfect location for your next social gathering or business function. The facility, which overlooks the one of the best golf course in the area, is fully equipped to accommodate up to 180 people for music, catered food, and bar service.
