Hiawatha IA Area Guide
In Linn County Iowa lies the city of Hiawatha, a city that is fast approaching its 60th anniversary. A suburb of Cedar Rapids and part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area, Hiawatha maintains a population of fewer than 7,000 happy and prosperous Iowa citizens. The story of Hiawatha begins back in 1946 when Fay Clark, a resident of then heavily agriculture based township, saw a future where industry and growth were predominant. Fay had a vision of houses and highways running through a new city, a new vision of Hiawatha. Clark and another 45 residents signed a petition seeking to become an incorporated town in Linn County by this time in 1950. The town would be named after Clark’s trailer company, the Hiawatha Oak Brook Trailer Court, a “modern trailer court” on 20 acres of land east of Robins Road. That same year Clark and Henry Katz of Marion established the Linn County Fire Association and Clark was also named Justice of the Peace. Hiawatha Parks & Recreation
